We live in a world where options are everywhere. People aren’t placing much value on commitment or monogamy. It’s sad when you think about it. One doesn’t seem to be enough for us at times. I”m not just talking about in relationships, but with regards to most of the things that color our world. Our culture is inundated with excess. One can’t possibly satisfy ALL that we desire. When it comes to potato chips, Lays garnered the phrase “Bet you can’t eat just one”” in 1983. Apple has worked for years to become the standard for the digital market. So much so, that they can release a new phone sometimes within months of each other….and America simply has to have the next phone. We will even pay more to have “another” phone although the current phone works just fine.
So, the notion that God is enough for us competes with our desire for the options. When He pulls on us to pray, sometimes we choose Him and other times we choose social media. I am guilty. When He nudges on us to give a special offering, sometimes we rationalize the allocation of our resources on the things that are of great necessity at the time. I’ve been there. When He convicts us about the way that we spoke to someone (spouse, co-worker, children, family member) we choose to focus on their actions which provoked our response in the first place. But, what would happen if we began to choose God more often? What if we made His way the ONLY way for us? What if we placed a greater value on His word than His hand?
Today, let’s choose God! He is the only option. He’s not the alternative. He is our choice.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever. Psalms 73:25-26
Father, today I choose you. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything because You are more than enough me. Your words are enough to satisfy the questions of my heart. Your peace is enough to settle and quiet me. Your love is enough to comfort and affirm me. Your grace is enough to redeem my past, cover me now and secure my future. You are my choice. My only choice forever.
